I recently stumbled upon a limited edition book titled The Complex of All of These by Abigail Uhteg, a bookmaker and conservator who currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland. I was mesmorized by the video of the making of this book, from the printing to the book binding, it is a work of art!
Book Summary: In a poetic language the author contemplates the world around her. Images and words become parallel languages, where the distinction between ground and sky, past and present collapses. One conceit after another feels its way over the tiny words before sinking deep into the dark of the etching ink to linger, trembling.
Printed at the Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, NY – a visual arts organization with specialized studios in printmaking, hand papermaking, ceramics, letterpress printing, photography and book arts. Their mission is to operate and maintain an artists’ workspace that encourages the voice and vision of individual women artists, to provide professional opportunities for artists, and to promote programs designed to stimulate public involvement, awareness, and support for the visual arts.
The texture and images of the book are very striking, I love the attention to detail, and the uniqueness of a handmade work of art such as this.
